The Asian American/Pacific Islander Nurses Association (AAPINA) is pleased to award $1,000 to one of its members pursuing an undergraduate or a graduate nursing degree. The purpose of this scholarship is to support nursing education for AAPINA members and thus enhance the contribution of our membership in achieving AAPINA’s core mission. AAPINA is pleased to announce its annual "Yu (Philip) Xu Mentoring Award" to a current active member of AAPINA. This is an annual award given to one deserving AAPINA member at the AAPINA annual conference. The awardee will initially receive a $500 check and a certificate. Through a grant funded by the Okura Foundation we are seeking mentors and fellows (mentees) for members who have experience in psych-mental health nursing. It is with deep sadness to inform you that Dr. Yu (Philip) Xu, AAPINA President passed away on July 9, 2013 after a long battle with cancer. As an immigrant from China, Dr. Yu (Philip) Xu was very passionate about the assimilation of foreign nurses in American society and mentorship. As a scholar, Dr. Xu authored hundreds of scholarly articles in nursing and health care journals about cultural competence, foreign nurse assimilation, and health care status of minority populations.
Winners will be announced at the 10th Annual AAPINA Nursing Conference.
